How To Test Wifi Interconnected Smoke Detector?

If you had purchased interconnected smoke detectors, we would have pre-paired them into cluster(s) according to your preference prior to delivery.

On receipt of your order, you only need to pair your wifi interconnected smoke detector(s) to Tuya Smart app on your mobile. Here’s a guide for you.

To test your wifi interconnected smoke detector, hard press & release the multi function button at the wifi base. Do not press & hold the multi function button for too long as it will trigger a pairing reset (in which case, you will need to re-pair all the interconnected smoke detectors yourself).

Wifi Interconnect Wifi Base
Hard Press & Release Multi Function Button

You should hear the audible alarm from the wifi interconnected smoke detector. If you have already paired the unit to your mobile via Tuya Smart, you should also get a push notification on your mobile.

This guide helps to identify which is the smoke detector that’s first triggered in an interconnected cluster.

In an interconnected cluster, the expected behaviour is when one of the interconnected smoke detector is triggered, all other interconnected smoke detectors in the same cluster will go into alarm mode as well.

Here’s how to identify which is the interconnected smoke detector that is first triggered.

  1. Press the silence button on any of the interconnected smoke detectors.
    1. If the interconnected smoke detector where the silent button is pressed IS NOT the original one that’s triggered, it will silence all interconnected smoke detectors except the one that’s originally triggered.
    2. If the interconnected smoke detector where the silent button is pressed IS the original one that’s triggered, it will silence all interconnected smoke detectors.

The above behaviour is to let us identify which is the interconnected smoke detector that first got triggered.

If there’s no smoke and yet the interconnected smoke detector is triggered, then it’s likely due to false alarm. Please click here to read about false alarms.

Category: Smoke Detectors

This FAQ serves to guide you on what to do in event of false alarms in smoke detectors.

A false alarm is an event where a smoke detector is triggered but there’s no smoke around. False alarm is usually caused by some fine particles entering the smoke sensing chamber. As these particles move around in the chamber, they affect the photoelectric behaviour and may trigger the smoke detector.

This is the reason why we do not recommend installing smoke detectors in dusty, greasy, high humidity or windy areas. You can refer to this post to find out where to avoid installing smoke detectors. If you have smoke detectors in any of these areas, you may have to consider relocating that smoke detector.

If the smoke detector isn’t in any of these areas, then it may be just sheer luck that some fine particles entered the smoke sensing chamber of the smoke detector. In this case, perform a maintenance on the smoke detector. You can refer to this post on how to how a simple cleaning of the smoke detector.

There are 2 ways of maintenance:

  1. Vacuum cleaner
  2. Compressed air duster

Compressed air duster (#2) is the preferred option but if you do not have a canister of compressed air duster, the vacuum cleaner option is a good alternative.

If after doing maintenance with vacuum cleaner and false alarms persist, then you may have to consider purchasing a compressed air duster. You can find them from Lazada or Shopee.

If after doing maintenance with compressed air duster and false alarms persist, you may have to consider relocating that smoke detector even though it may not be installed in any of abovementioned dusty, greasy, high humidity or windy areas.
